What is a lawyers' fee mean. A lawyers' fees means the amount you pay for the time, experience and knowledge of your lawyer. Along with the lawyer fee, depending on the type of case, there are COST of representation. COST of representation is not part of the lawyer's fee, it is a fee the lawyer pays for the services, if needed, of others such as expert witnesses, subpoena service, court reporters to take down depositions, copies of transcripts from depositions or trial, private investigators filing fees, etc.
You may have heard a "cheap" lawyer is not a good lawyer, or "you get what you pay for." The problem with that way of thinking actually forgets about what it COST to properly represent a Client. Any lawyer can take a case, charge a enormous fee, go to trial without considering or hiring the people needed to secure a NOT GULITY, and keep the enormous fee for themselves. Lawyer gets rich, you get convicted. In many cases the cost of the other people needed to secure a not guilty verdict is more that the fee paid to the lawyer for their services. If you are going to give a lawyer an enormous amount of your hard earned money make sure that lawyer is going to be use it hire the people needed to get you the best outcome.
I offer reasonable flat fees and payment plans.
The factors to be considered in determining the reasonableness of a fee include but are not limited to the following: (1) the time and labor required, the novelty and difficulty of the questions involved, and the skill requisite to perform the legal service properly; (2) the likelihood that the acceptance of the particular employment will preclude other employment by the lawyer; (3) the fee customarily charged in the locality for similar legal services; (4) the amount involved and the results obtained; (5) the time limitations imposed by the client or by the circumstances; (6) the nature and length of the professional relationship with the client; (7) the experience, reputation, and ability of the lawyer or lawyers performing the services; (8) whether the fee is fixed or contingent; and (9) the cost of doing business.
Some lawyers include up to thirty-five to fifty percent of there overhead (cost of doing business) in their fee. I keep my overheard very law and pass that savings on to my Clients.
